About the Obituary Index

The Corpus Christi Public Libraries Obituary Index is a collaborative project between department staff and volunteers to catalog every death notice and obituary that is printed in the Corpus Christi Caller (C), Corpus Christi Times (T), and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (CT). The Corpus Christi Caller was the first newspaper of Corpus Christi, Texas and was shortly followed by an evening newspaper called the Corpus Christi Times. In the late 1900s, the two newspapers were combined to become the Corpus Christi Caller-Times which has remained the newspaper of record for Corpus Christi, Texas.

This index reflects this effort by showing the publication date for more than 200,000 of our local obituaries.

The Local History Department at the La Retama Central Branch has microfilm of these newspapers, open for research. Available years on microfilm are as followed:

  • Corpus Christi Caller: 1883 – 1987
  • Corpus Christi Times: 1921 – 1987
  • Corpus Christi Caller-Times: 1987 – 2018
